AMAZON PHONE

This might be a case of doing too much; as Amazon releases their own telecommunication device and fray into the phone industry.

My belief is anything worth doing is worth doing well and according to critics, Amazon has not really met the industry's standards. Why bother doing something that could possibly tarnish your brand if not well executed? I'm just saying.
Now unto you guys, would you get the Amazon phone?

WILLIE KEITH KELLOGGS

MINI-BIOGRAPHY

 1.       Willie Keith Kellogg was born on the 7^th of April, 1860 in Battle Creek, Michigan; he was the seventh of 16 children.

 2.    As a young boy, Will Kellogg was extremely shy with no unique qualities; in fact his teachers thought him to be a slow learner and in no time he dropped out of school to help out as a salesman in his dad’s broom company.

 3.    In 1880, he married Ella Davis and also in that year, took up a 3 month business  course at the Parsons Business College in Kalamazoo, Michigan.

 4.  After the course, he gained employment as a bookkeeper at the Battle Creek      Sanatorium run by his elder brother, Dr John Harvey Kellogg.  

 5.  Will helped his brother to promote his many health books, recipes, theories and even  manage his Sanitas Nut Food Company for several years but received very meagre  wages for his effort.

 6.   In 1894, Will, whilst still a bookkeeper in Battle Creek, mistakenly left out a pot of cooked wheat to stand overnight but found it severely hardened by the morning. Out of curiosity, he then proceeded to run it as it was, through the company’s rollers; to his surprise, each grain of wheat came out as a large, thin flake. He then persuaded his brother to bake it and serve it with milk and it eventually became a huge hit with all the patients.

 7.   Not long after, patients who had left the sanatorium began requesting for the wheat flakes by mail order and so Will had the added responsibility of meeting the hundreds of orders that came in every week but he never missed a beat and continued to expand the cereal business using his innate business acumen.

 8. The brothers combined forces and began experimenting with other possible raw materials for making baked flakes such as barley, oats and corn. In 1898, they discovered that corn grits produced a flavourful and crispy flake, thus the cornflakes was born. Will however, insisted on the addition of sugar to this new product to which John vehemently refused, thus causing the brothers to go their separate ways.

 9.  In 1903, Will formed his own cereal company called the Battle Creek Toasted Cornflake Company and began to experiment extensively with different recipes to further broaden his market size. He advertised heavily and made use of slogans and catch-phrases that stuck easily in consumers’ minds; In New York, he proclaimed Wednesday ‘the wink day’ whereby any woman who winked at their grocer on a Wednesday received a free box of cornflakes.

 10. In 1930, Will created the W.K Kellogg Foundation and its primary aim was             to help children and youths attain their aspirations by providing them with the resources they needed, to do so.

 11. In 1934, Will donated more than $66 million to the Kellogg Foundation to further ensure its sustainability and longevity.

 12. In 1938, he retired from official duties and spent most of his retirement at his Arabian horse farm in Pomona, California where he bred over 300 Arabian horses.

 13. On 6 October 1951, Will Kellogg died at the age of 91, having being blind for the last ten years of his life.

TOILET TATTOO

If this can get fellow users of the, ehem 'throne' to shut the lid by admiring the tattoo picture, it's a sure winner in my book.

24 Feb 1955: Steve Jobs was born to Abdulfattah Jandali, an emigrant from Syria and Joanne Schieble, a Swiss-American. He was adopted by Paul and Clara Jobs when Joanne’s parents refused to acknowledge her relationship and offspring with Abdulfattah.

Summer 1968: 13 year old Steve calls Bill Hewlett who promptly offers him a summer position at the HP factory.

1969: Steve Jobs meets future Apple co-founder, Steve Wozniak, through a mutual friend and they begin to experiment with different electronic ideas.

1972: Steve J and Steve W build and illegally sell ‘blue boxes’ that allow phone calls to be made for free.

1973: Steve J spends one semester at Reed College, Oregon and then drops out after six months. He spends the next 18 months dropping in on creative classes like calligraphy, which would later help in the design of the Macintosh’s fonts.

Late 1973: Steve Jobs gets a job as a technician in Atari Inc.

1974: Whilst an employee at Atari, Steve Jobs is given the challenging task of creating a circuit board with as little chips as possible for the arcade game, ‘Breakout’. Recognizing his limited technical ability for the task, he hands it over to Steve W with the promise of splitting the payout sum two-way. Steve W succeeds in creating the circuit but Steve J tells him the payout sum is $700 when it was actually $5,000. Steve W will not find out until 10 years later.

1976: Apple Computer Inc is formed by Steve J, Steve W and Ron Wayne.

1976: Steve and Woz start assembling Apple I computers in the Jobses' garage, and sell them to computer hobbyists, including 50 for the Byte Shop.

1977: Former Intel executive turned business angel Mike Markkula invests in Apple and hires former colleague Mike Scott as CEO. Steve W is forced to leave HP to join Apple full time.

1978:  The Apple II becomes the first mass-market personal computer, with impressive sales around the US. Apple becomes a symbol of the personal computing revolution.

1979: Sales of Apple II skyrocket after pioneer spreadsheet software Visicalc is introduced.

1980: Apple goes public, increasing Steve Jobs' net worth from dozens of millions of dollars to over $200 million.

1983: PepsiCo CEO John Sculley becomes Apple's CEO after having been wooed by Steve Jobs for several months.

1984: Macintosh is launched in great fanfare at Apple’s annual shareholder meeting.

May 1985: Apple's board sides with John Sculley and strips Steve off all executive duties.

1985: Alan Kay first introduces the Pixar team to Steve Jobs.

Sep 1985: Steve Jobs resigns from Apple and starts NeXT with five other refugees from Apple. Apple announces it will sue NeXT.

Mar 1993: Steve's father, Paul Jobs, dies.

Feb 1995: Steve starts focusing less on NeXT and more on Pixar before Toy Story is released. He becomes President & CEO of Pixar Animation Studios.

Nov 1995: One week after Toy Story is out, Pixar goes public. Steve Jobs's worth rises to $1.5 billion, more than it ever was during his first tenure at Apple.

BLANX WHITE SHOCK TOOTHPASTE

How many toothpastes out there claim to have some sort of whitening effect but after much ado and application, there's really no change to be seen. Creators of Blanx White Shock claim to have discovered an active ingredient called Actilux that reacts with daylight to attack dirt and stain on the surface of the teeth; so literally, the more you smile. the whiter your teeth becomes.

Sorry to say that I'm a skeptic and will remain so until I've tried it for myself or several people attest to the validity of the claims. It is a great concept though and if it actually works, it's a sure winner.

iCuff

Hmmm??? was my first thought when I heard about the iWatch and its impending release. All across the web, folks were not overly welcoming about this new product from Apple but this past month however, patents for a new design called the iCuff, were released and I think this might receive a more positive feedback.

First of all, it has a catchy, futuristic design that is reminiscent of the design that stands Apple's products out. Also, it is fundamentally an iPhone and so it's basically a stand-alone device that doesn't require pairing with some other Apple gadget.

From blueprints released, it is a cuff but it can be flattened to enable storage in one's pocket or anywhere else; pretty neat if i do say so myself. Only time will tell if this will become another iconic device from Apple but I guess these are the daily challenges one faces when you are at the top of the pack.

GOOGLE GLASS

Worldwide, everybody is asking the same question 'what the hell is google glass and what is it supposed to bloody do?'

Well, the secret is slowly unfolding as Google begins its campaign for its first physical innovation.

Apparently, it's a voice-controlled mini computer/phone, shaped like a futuristic eyeglass. If that doesn't impress you, maybe its features might;

1) Take a photograph by just saying the sentence 'take a picture'.
2) Record moments 'hands-free'.
3) Share live recordings.
4) Get directions straight to the eyeglass.
5) Send messages by just speaking.
6) Translate your voice into any language.
7) Get answers to any question.

It also comes in a variety of colours to suit those a bit more fashion concious.

If you are still confused or unsure about how Google glass works; believe me, you won't be the only one. What I do know is that the current pace of technology is truly revolutionary and who knows, this might just be the start of the 'nano' age we've come to expect in futuristic movies.

FLOATING TABLECLOTH

At first glance, this table creation by Danish designer, Jon Brauer, seems to be floating literally above the floor.

But the truth is, it is actually not.

The table or tablecloth, made from acrylic plastic noted for its transparency and resistance to breakage, is balancing on a round pedestal measured at 30 cm in diameter. If you look closely at the picture, you'll see that the edges of the tablecloth have been ingeniously folded to form the base of the table.
